Ken is married to Val and has two daughters Louise [25] and Stephanie [18]. He has been a member of Farnham Common Sports Club for 25 years. He joined the club in the first instance to play hockey which he continued to enjoy until 2003 when his tennis coaching commitment prevented him from continuing to play on a regular basis. He played an active role in developing the hockey section becoming a member of the Hockey committee in 1982, first as Men’s captain [3 years] and then as section secretary [2 years].
Tennis has always been one of Ken’s favourite sports and he has played at all levels within the club. He is at his happiest when playing in a friendly 4 on a Saturday afternoon providing it finishes with enough time to enjoy a few drinks with his friends.
Ken became Men’s Captain in 1998 and was soon responsible for introducing additional teams so that more members could play shield tennis. He handed this responsible job over to Bob Milne in 2003 but remained on the Tennis committee until 2004. During his time on the committee he was also responsible for reintroducing the seasonal newsletter entitled On Court – Off Court and was responsible for the creation of The Farnham Common Junior Winter League.
He
won the Men’s Doubles [2002 & 2003] club championship with Gerrit.

Seb qualified as a professional tennis coach in the summer of 2006. In 2006 he reached the finals of the Men’s Singles Club competition. He is a valuable member of our coaching team and we all wish him well whilst he is in Dubai.

There are two main paths you can follow if you wish to become a tennis coach in the UK. You can apply to the LTA who have a coaching program you can follow. It is very time consuming and requires considerable financial commitment.
Alternatively you can go on a one-week course run by the PTR UK which is exceedingly good and will then allow you to start gaining the experience you need to develop your coaching skills. If you would like any further information please speak to Ken who will be only to pleased to talk you through the various opportunities available.
